Noons came out on top in their first outing. He dominated Stockton, California’s resident badass at “EliteXC: Renegade” in November of 2007, which resulted in a controversial TKO (Doctor’s Stoppage) before the start of the 2nd round.

Bent on getting a rematch, Diaz confronted Noons at “EliteXC: The Return of the King” after both were victorious in their respective bouts.

That altercation led to the now infamous, “Don’t be scared, homie”…

Yves Edwards may yet deliver on the early promise of his career:

With less than a week before the event is set to take place, the UFC has added an undercard scrap between Yves Edwards and John Gunderson to its Fight Night 22 on Sept. 15, rounding out the 10 bout card. The main event will feature former middleweight contender Nate Marquardt taking on Rousimar Palhares, fresh off his 90 day suspension for cranking a submission at UFC 111 after his opponent had tapped and referee Kevin Mulhall stopped the fight. The unlucky gentleman who found himself on the business end of that heel hook was Tomasz Drawl, but fortunately for him an MRI revealed no major damage to his knee. Palhares claimed he never felt the tap and stated that he was sorry for injuring Drawl, but it was fairy obvious he held on a bit too long. The card will also serve as a lead up to the premiere of Spike TV’s season 12 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’

Edwards (38-16-2), once touted as the uncrowned champion of the UFC’s resurrected lightweight division, didn’t quite have the success many had projected. The MMA journeyman has had a tough time finding a stable home in MMA, coming and going with the UFC seven different times dating back almost 10 years. He makes his return to the Octagon after a four year stint fighting for organizations like Shine Fights, Strikeforce, EliteXC, and Bellator.

Just a week before its lightweight grand prix tournament, Shine Fights has had to make a fairly major change in plans.

The promotion had a one-night, eight-man lightweight tournament planned for Sept. 10 at the Patriot Center on the George Mason University campus in Fairfax, Va. But MMA Fighting has learned that though the tournament will still go on, Shine will pack up camp and move the event to Oklahoma. The exact location and venue is not yet known.

According to a source close to the promotion, the issue at the heart of the move was a marketing push by Shine that gave fans the opportunity to choose the matchups for the first-round bouts in the tournament.

That apparently didn’t sit well with Virginia’s commission, which operates under the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. The commission wouldn’t issue Shine a license because of the fan matchmaking, the source said.Similar Posts:

Joe Warren and Joe Soto faced off in Bellator Fighting Championships’ first World Championship defense fight at Bellator 27 which took place in San Antonio, TX from the Majestic Theatre.

After Soto picked Warren apart on the feet in round 1 of the fight, Warren opened round 2 with a huge right hand, sending the former champ reeling to the canvas.

After Soto scrambled back to his feet, Warren landed a devastating knee to the chin that finished the fight, becoming the new Bellator World Featherweight Champion.

I can not tell you which one is more daunting, get in the ring with him or trying to pronounce his name. Both are tough, but I suppose fighting against him could be more lethal. Magomed Sultanakhmedov will be making his American debut at the fourth M-1 Global selection show on September 18 against an opponent soon to be named, and he looks to leave a mark on this foreign soil.

Sultanakhmedov, who is awesomely nicknamed “The White Wolf,” was one of the most experienced fighters in the whole European tournament and last defeated Alexei Belyaev in Moscow, Russia on July 22 by TKO in round 2 to earn his spot in the middleweight division of the European selection finals. With a background in traditional Karate and kick-boxing, as well as a veteran tournament participant for M-1, Dream and K-1 Hero ’s (and also, he fought Alexey Oleinik of YAMMA fame). He brings a record of 14 wins and 4 losses with him, 8 of those victories coming by TKO. Many have compared his style to Mirko Cro Cop – a great left-handed fighter with good defense and deadly kicks, although I would have to say that Sultanakhmedov is much more well-rounded than the Croatian.

At the end of last year’s championship M-1 Selection Russia , he won by TKO Dmitry Samoilov and together with his club won the title of champions of Russia. In the quarterfinals of this tournament Magomed completely cemented himself as a star of M-1 fighter by defeating the hard-hitting Pavel Kusch, which you can watch after the jump, by a stunning knockout early in the third round.

Tyson Jeffries and Mike Geurin will be meeting on September 18 to decide who will eventually face Sultanakhmedov once the team events begin. The scary thing is he is just slightly older than me, which means this fighter has plenty of room to continue to grow and improve, so New Jersey better beware, if they thought they had wildlife problems before, now they have to deal with “The White Wolf!”

Meh…

It would be a nice sideshow, but with most of the major Japanese MMA promotions in financial trouble and UFC President Dana White somewhat soured on the idea of “celebrity” fights, it would take someone like Strikeforce to put the fight together.
