Strikeforce will finally fill their vacant Championship slot in the welterweight division on January 30th, when the organization makes their way to the BankAtlantic Arena in Sunrise, FL., as Nick Diaz will face off with DREAM Welterweight Champion Marius Zaromskis in the night’s main event.
The news comes according to a report from MMAWeekly.com, and the organization is expected to announce the bout on tonight’s broadcast on Showtime.
Diaz will return for the first time since a June submission over Scott Smith. He was scheduled to return in August to face Jay Hieron, though skipped a pre fight drug test for the CSAC and was taken off the card.
Zaromskis makes his Strikeforce debut after taking DREAM by storm with three consecutive head kick KO victories, winning him the Welterweight Grand Prix and defending his Welterweight Title at DREAM 12 just before signing with Strikeforce. The Lithuanian will look to make a great impression on U.S. audiences against one of Strikeforce’s most recognized stars on Showtime.

Penick’s Analysis: Jay Hieron is again getting the shaft from Strikeforce after losing out on this fight in August. That said, this bout is definitely a legitimate fight for Strikeforce for this Title. It is also likely to be an explosive match up between Zaromskis’ and Diaz’s stand up abilities. This is a good main event for Strikeforce’s next showtime event, provided Diaz can be relied upon to show up for this one.
