Torres went in a different direction – an entirely different direction – and committed himself to changing his entire outlook and revamping his training team.Torres is coming off an intensive patch of hard work with jiu-jitsu instructor Robert Drysdale and now plans to live and work with Mark Dellagrotte in Boston.

“I want to change the way I finish fights,” Torres said. “I was trying to go out there and put on a show, impress the crowd and make them look at the 135-pound division. I’ve done that enough. It’s time to put my health and safety first.”

According to Torres, he came to feel he could stand up with everyone. The Bowles fight showed him the error of his ways and he now plans to return to the deadly combination of ground game and striking that took him to the top of the bantamweight pile.

Torres returns on March 6 against 135-pound contender Joe Benavidez on the same card where Bowles defends his freshly-minted WEC bantamweight belt.”I want Cruz to win,” Torres said, thinking fighters are best after a loss. “I want Brian to lose. He’ll want to come back strong and then I’ll have the best Brian Bowles there is. If he loses that fight against Dominick and he loses the belt, I wouldn’t want a fight with Cruz. I would want Brian Bowles.”

Frank Mir, Travis Lutter, Patrick Cote, Stephan Bonnar and Marcus Davis all train with Dellagrotte, and now Torres will add his name to list of fighters who work on their games with Dellagrotte.

“Big things are popping back here,” Dellagrotte said. “I just picked up Frank Mir, he is going to be working with us. I have a great relationship with Frank, he is going to be my new project. And Miguel is coming to see us, he is coming off that loss to Bowles, he’s gonna work with us and we will hopefully get his belt back.”

Unlike some striking trainers, DellaGrotte has embraced the ground game, and that should be the formula that helps Torres get back to his winning ways.

“My mind always thought MMA, but nobody really thought of me as the MMA guy,” Dellagrotte said. “If you’re not putting it all together, you’re missing something. That’s why I shifted my focus from just being a striking coach to actually teaching the whole package.”

Bellator Fighting Championships and Redline Media Group have formed a strategic business alliance that will bring four of Bellator’s nationally televised events – including its Season 2 and 3 premieres – to Hard Rock Live, an entertainment complex at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, during 2010.

Under the terms of this landmark agreement — which was completed in conjunction with Redline Media Group — Hard Rock Live will host the following Bellator events:

  • Bellator XIII (Season 2 Premiere), April 8, 2010
  • Bellator XXII, (Season 2 Final Round Event), June 10, 2010
  • Bellator XXV (Season 3 Premiere), Aug. 12, 2010; and
  • Bellator XXXVI (Season 3 Finale), Oct. 28, 2010.

In 2009, Bellator hosted its first-ever event on April 3rd at Hard Rock Live and then returned on June 19th for the Season 1 finale. Both events were hugely successful, drawing raucous, near-capacity crowds.

“We are thrilled to be returning to the Seminole Hard Rock during our second and third seasons,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “As we discovered during our inaugural season, the Hard Rock Live is one of the finest, most state-of-the-art venues for MMA and the fan response was spectacular. Each of the four Bellator events being held at the Hard Rock Live (as well as the 20 additional Bellator Season 2 and 3 events) will be distributed live in prime time to 92 million homes by FOX Sports Net and its regional sports network affiliates. In addition, top moments from each week’s live events will then be condensed into an action-packed 30-minute highlight show broadcast every successive Saturday night, late night, on NBC.

A one-hour Saturday night highlight show will air nationwide in Spanish on Telemundo.

Bellator Fighting Championships’ nationally televised events feature a combination of tournament and non-tournament bouts. There will be four simultaneous tournaments taking place in each season in the featherweight (145 lbs.), lightweight (155 lbs.), welterweight (170 lbs.) and middleweight (185 lbs.) divisions. Winners of this year’s tournaments will be declared No. 1 contenders to Bellator’s current roster of champions.

Gegard Mousasi forged a name for himself by winning the Strikeforce light heavyweight title and completely dismantling the tough veteran, Babalu Sobral, on the way to the belt.

Not one to sit on his hands, Mousasi decided join UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre’s training camp this week to assist in the UFC welterweight sensation’s tuneup for his March 27 bout against Dan Hardy at UFC 111 in Newark, New Jersey.

Since then Leah has appeared on and hosted TV shows including Spike’s Sexiest NYC Bartenders, Spike TV’s Women of Action, Casino Cinema, Inside the UFC, and The Ultimate Fighter.

Leah is no longer working as an Octagon Girl, but she does host UFC All Access on Spike TV, which airs a week before each UFC pay-per-view event.

Electronic Arts Inc. will offer the fight action online with a free of charge stream.

The welterweight (170 pounds) matchup between wrestling powerhouses Joe “Diesel” Riggs (32-10) and Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron (18-4) from BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida this Saturday, January 30 is a freebie.

The live stream begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on the official EA SPORTS MMA website.

Riggs, a 27 year old native of Phoenix, Arizona, will attempt to extend a four fight win streak that began with his second round (2:05) TKO of Luke Stewart in a STRIKEFORCE: Destruction bout at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on November 21, 2008.

In his last effort under the STRIKEFORCE banner, Riggs dominated hard-hitting “The New York Badass” Phil Baroni for three consecutive rounds of action before walking away with a unanimous judges’ decision victory at St. Louis’ Scottrade Center on June 6, 2009.

Hieron, a former nationally ranked NCAA wrestler for Hofstra University, has been victorious in each of his last six starts. The Long Island, New York native made his STRIKEFORCE debut in his last effort, earning a unanimous decision win over Jesse “J.T. Money” Taylor at HP Pavilion on August 15, 2009.

A former troubled teen, Hieron has since become an inspiration, winning a world title with the now defunct International Fight League (IFL) and relocating to Las Vegas in order to train with the fight squad headed by MMA legend Randy “The Natural” Couture.
