In his long and illustrious career, with 59 bouts to his credit, Bernard Hopkins has only lost one rematch. That was a controversial decision loss to Jermain Taylor, who received a gift decision over B-Hop in their first fight as well. Segundo Mercado, Antwun Echols, Robert Allen and Roy Jones Jr. are the other pugilists to suffer defeat at the hands of Bernard Hopkins the second time around. In fact, Hopkins fought Robert Allen three times, winning the last two after their first fight was ruled a no contest when referee Mills Lane injured Hopkins by accidentally knocking him out of the ring while trying to break up a clinch.
It is really not possible to draw any conclusions from B-Hop's rematch victory over Roy Jones Jr. because Jones was a shot fighter when they last met in 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. So, what does B-Hop's success in rematches really mean? It means that Bernard Hopkins always learns something about his opponents in their original encounter and uses it to his advantage the next time around. Hopkins has often stated that outside of his first loss to Roy Jones, he firmly believes that he has never been defeated in the ring and there are a lot of people who would agree with that sentiment.
