Demian Maia Bumped Up to Stacked UFC 118 Card

Middleweight title aspirant Demian Maia has been moved up from headlining September’s UFC Fight Night 22 and will now take on 185-pound prospect Mario Miranda on the main card of UFC 118 on August 28 in Boston.

Maia was scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 22, but a detached retina forced Alan Belcher out of the main event. A UFC 118 bout between middleweights Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares was then shifted to the headlining slot at Fight Night 22.

Maia now 12-2, replaced the injured Vitor Belfort and dropped a unanimous decision to middleweight champ Anderson Silva in his most-recent fight in April, a bout notable for Silva’s antics and Maia’s game efforts to get at the champ. Maia had won 12 of 13, including 6 of 7 in the UFC (over the likes of Chael Sonnen and Dan Miller) before hitting the wall against Silva.

Miranda, 12-1 for his MMA career, suffered a first-round TKO to Gerald Harris in his UFC debut in March for his first career loss and then came back from that defeat with a second-round TKO of David Loiseau at UFC 115.

UFC 118 features a rematch between lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn and an intriguing matchup between Randy Couture and James Toney.

Kenny Florian takes on Gray Maynard at that event as well.Similar Posts:
